Preston Manning opens up about the COVID Commission report
Thursday Jul 14, 2022
Thursday Jul 14, 2022
In this episode Constitutional Lawyer Leighton Grey and The Honorable Preston Manning have a conversation about the history of politics in Canada, his rise to Prime Minister Candidacy, and some of Preston's thoughts on the Trudeau administration.
Ernest Preston Manning is a retired Canadian politician. He was the founder and the only leader of the Reform Party of Canada, a Canadian federal political party that evolved into the Canadian Alliance in 2000 which in turn merged with the Progressive Conservative Party to form today's Conservative Party of Canada in 2003. Manning grew up in the Garneau district of Edmonton, but moved at age twelve with his parents to the family dairy farm east of Edmonton from which he attended a rural school – Horse Hill High School. He enrolled in the honors physics program at the University of Alberta in 1960, but switched after three years to economics and graduated in 1964 with a Bachelor of Arts in economics. Some of his recent work includes the COVID Commission which seeks to explore how millions of Canadians who had been told that their fundamental rights and freedoms were constitutionally guaranteed by the Charter of Rights and Freedoms learned to their dismay that those rights and freedoms could be easily violated by health protection measures implemented by well-meaning but unelected bureaucrats and suspended at will by the federal government through a presumptive and unnecessary invoking of the Emergencies Act.
During the conversation Manning & Grey explore the complexities of our Canadian Government systems and how he was involved in shaping the Canada we all know and love, some of the bigger issues we are facing right now with the COVID crisis and the way the current government has handled everything, and how a simple thought experiment has shone a light on the mistakes that have been made and who is to be held accountable.

Trudeau administration declares war on Tamara Lich
Thursday Jul 07, 2022
Thursday Jul 07, 2022
In this episode Constitutional Lawyer Leighton Grey and Jeffrey Rath have a conversation about the ongoing legal battle between the government and Tamara Lich, how important the upcoming Canadian election is going to be, and why we should be considering new leadership.
Jeff has been involved in winning cases for First Nations at every level of Court in Canada including the Supreme Court of Canada; the Federal Court of Appeal; the Federal Court Trial Division; the Alberta Court of Appeal; the Alberta Court of Queen's Bench; and the Provincial Court of Alberta; the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal; the Supreme Court of British Columbia; and the Ontario Court of Appeal. Jeffrey made an appearance on the Grey Matter Podcast earlier this year to share some of his insights into the ongoing Deena Hinshaw case. He is returning to share some updates to the story and what he's uncovered in the work he's been doing. Rath recently wrote in an article for The Western Standard "Anybody who watched Trudeau calling Albertans every name in the book when they gathered in Ottawa to protest his authoritarianism knows that Trudeau separated Canada from Alberta the day that he unlawfully and without excuse invoked the Emergency Measures Act." clearly indicating his personal stance on the Prime Minister's actions during the Freedom Convoy.
Rath and Grey have a conversation about all the details surrounding the Tamara Lich case and how she has inadvertently become a political prisoner, all the while some may consider Tamara Lich as a freedom fighter who has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, as well as the topic of our current leadership candidates and where their interests fall in the greater order of things.

Brian Dale Giesbrecht received his education at United College and The University of Manitoba, where he obtained his LLB in 1972.
